He was predeceased by: his parents, Gale Salyards and Evelyn Salyards. He is survived by: his wife Mary L. Salyards; his children, Megan Fiedler (Michael) and Jason Salyards (Anne); his stepdaughters, Michelle Douer (Peter), Maria Sergenian (Brian) and Elizabeth Shepardson; his grandsons, Max Douer, Edward Douer, William Sergenian, Henry Sergenian, Noah Shepardson, Adam Shepardson, John Fiedler and Ethan Fiedler; his sister Jane Stephens (Gary); and his nephews, Craig Stephens and Kyle Stephens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church or to N.C. Little Hospice.
