He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Harold Tangren and Edith Tangren (Christiansen); his wife Janet Hongisto; his children, Elise McIan (Michael) of Portland, OR, Jeanne Hatle (Steve) of Northfield, MN and Pete Tangren (Nicole Phelps) of Minneapolis, MN; his granddaughters, Elissa Couron (Matt Dukart), Olivia Tangren, Caroline Tangren and Ravenna McIan; his great grandchild Theodore Dukart; and his brothers, Elwood Tangren (Barbara) and Eugene Tangren (Candice). He was also cherished by five nieces, a nephew.
