He was predeceased by : his wife Mary Jane Hartmann; his son Warren Hartmann; his son-in-law Duane Mages; his grandchildren, Paula Mages and Douglas Mages; his brother Howard; his siblings-in-law, Bernice Hartmann, Margie Hartmann, Leroy Joel, Gilbert, Helen Wendinger and Ron Schleif; and his parents, Albert Hartmann and Alvina Hartmann (Reinhart).

He is survived by : his daughters, Lenora Zitzman (Jerome) of New Ulm, Mary Ellen Eckstein (Melvin) of Fairfax and Jermayne Mages-Kuss (Duane) of Cold Spring; his daughter-in-law Cory Hartmann of Sioux Falls, SD; his sons, Michael Hartmann (Diane) of Gibbon, Roger Hartmann (Janet) of Kansas, Otto Jr. Hartmann (Bonnie) of Gibbon and Greg Hartmann (Ann) of Gibbon; his siblings, Verna Joel of New Ulm and Fred Hartmann (Verna); and his sister-in-law Kathleen Schleif of Owatonna. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Willibrord's Catholic Church or to Food for the Poor in Guatemala.
