He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Thurmes and Susan Thurmes (Reinardy); his wife Marcella K. Lovelace; and his brother Melvin Thurmes. He is survived by: his children, Peter of Littleton, CO, Kay Thurmes (Robert Lutchen) of Northfield, Mark (Peggy) of Hampton and Stephen of Minneapolis; his grandchildren, Bianca Lutchen, Bryce, Kyle Thurmes and Lindsey McCoy; and his brothers, Eugene (Pat) of Farmington and Jerry. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
