He was predeceased by: his significant other Bonnie Anderson; his parents, John McNelis (Brown) and Minnie McNelis; his siblings, John and Jacqueline; and his aunt Doris Kerkeide (John).

He is survived by: his daughters, Jackie Seurer (Mark), Laurie Hardie (John) and Molly McNelis-Guse (Eric); his grandchildren, Dennis Seurer (Amy Loberg), Rachel Novacek (Phil), Geena Hardie, Neil Hardie and Ryan Guse; and his pet Loki.

Memorials will be donated to Headwaters Animal Shelter in Park Rapids, MN.
