He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Santen and Nellie Van Santen (Van Hemert); his siblings, Arvin Van Santen and Betty Jean Van Santen; his brother-in-law Steve Schneekloth; and his mother-in-law Laura Van Essen.
He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Van Essen; his children, Jeff Van Santen (Alanna) of Luverne, Melissa Fick (Brian) of Luverne and Travis Van Santen (Ronna) of Sioux Falls; his grandchildren, Kelsi, Aiden Van Santen, Mara, Madison, Jaelyn Fick, Logan and Samantha Van Santen; his siblings, Marian Schneekloth of Luverne, Marlene Wienstroer (John) of Lenexa, Marge Briese of Hartford, Linda Vis of Sioux Falls, Steve Van Santen (Carla) of Luverne, Doug Van Santen (Kathy) of Brandon, Carolyn Diedrich (Tim) of Luverne, Rick Van Santen (Carrie) of Luverne and Lori Serum (Gary) of Champlin, Minnesota; and his parents-in-law, LeAnne Schoolmeester (Glen) of Chandler, Karla Schiebout (Lyle) of Trosky and Lloyd Van Essen (Lavonne) of Edgerton, Minnesota.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Southwest Christian School in Edgerton, Minnesota or Sioux Falls Christian School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
