He is survived by : his children, Herbert Smith (Joyce) of Maple Lake, Albert Smith (Beth) of Brooklyn Park, LaVonne VanDorp (Willis) of Buffalo, Janice Petz (Bruce) of Eden Prairie, Deborah Halbert (Gary) of Georgetown, TX, Barbara Carter (Don) of Shawnee, OK and Lawrence Smith (Jodi) of Maple Lake; his grandchildren, Angela Schloo (John), Sarah Smith (Eugene Goldmund), Molly Johnson (Don), Mark Smith, Jennie Herbst (Chris), Katie Smith, Elisa Ann, Jessica O'Connell (Matthew), Andrew Petz (Sarah), Hans Halbert (Rachel), Nicole Pater (Jeremy), Joni Kedrowski (Bob), Alyson Heath, Craig Heath, Matthew Smith (Tawnya), Ben Smith and Jackie Neumann (Patrick); and his sister Ann Kooiman of Richmond, VA.. He is also survived by 28 great grandchildren.
