He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Ahlers and Violet Ahlers (Pederson); his mother-in-law Helen Pieper; his stepfather Henry Dirksen; and his brother-in-law John Pieper.

He is survived by: his pets, Sam and Toby; his wife Deborah; his children, Ron Fritz (Candy Loving) of Pipestone, Pamela Zeinstra (Larry) of Pipestone and Shannon Gorter (Chris) of Marshall, Minnesota; his grandchildren, John Bush, Darian Bush, Shania Bush, McKinley Bush, Spencer Fritz, Landon Fritz, Mikah Fritz, Collin Gorter and Loralai Gorter; his great grandchildren, Savannah Bush and Haven Bush; his siblings, Edwin Ahlers (Judy) of Wall, Ron Ahlers (Deanna) of Pipestone, Bob Ahlers of Pipestone and Linda Hollingsworth (Alan) of Pipestone; and his father-in-law Karol Pieper of Pipestone. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
