She was predeceased by: her parents, William Spykerboer and Lena Spykerboer (Kracht); her husband James Brands; her son Edward; her grandchildren, Dean Van Ruler and Brenda Van Ruler; and her siblings, Bert, Henry, Chris Spykerboer, Jennie Spykerboer, Jennie Dykema and Albertha Tiedemann.
She is survived by: her children, Florence Van Ruler (Harris) of Chandler, Wilvina Kas (Willard) of Pipestone and Larry Brands (Luann) of Holland, Minnesota; her sister Mary Brands (John) of Edgerton; and her siblings-in-law, Priscilla Spykerboer of Rock Rapids and Robert Dykema of Ellsworth. She is also survived by 11 granddaughters and their spouses; 20 great-grandchildren.
