He was predeceased by: his siblings, Otto Essig, Willbert Essig, Leo Essig, John Essig and Esther Groettum.
He is survived by: his wife Diane Essig of Shevlin, MN; his sons, John Essig (Virginia) of Shevlin, MN, Dan Essig (Namye) of Deer River, MN and Jim Essig (Jeri) of Aurora, MN; his grandchildren, Crystal Archer (Phil), Daniel Essig (Megan), Chris Essig (Julia), Angeline Essig (Chris), Matt Essig, Mariah Dahmen (John), Espree Essig and Ryan Thielen (Jodi); and his great grandchildren, Keyon, Jaeda, Gianna, Kyu, Isla, Ariya and Isaac.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.
