He was predeceased by: his parents, George T. Gerdes and GeSena Gerdes (Buss); his sons, Ricky and Randy Gerdes; his siblings, Irene Miller, Erwin and Vernon Gerdes; and his sister-in-law Norma Jean Gerdes.
He is survived by: his wife Audry Gerdes; his children, Sherri Kooiman (Erwin) and Kevin Gerdes (Sharon); his grandchildren, Carrie Ann Lick (Bob), Christine Lee Mollema, Eric Lynn Kooiman, Daniel Joseph Gerdes and Sarah Ann Gerdes; his great grandchild Kylie Ann Mollema; his brother Harold Gerdes (Diane); and his sisters-in-law, Carole Gerdes and Judy Larsen (Richard) of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces & nephews.
