He was predeceased by: his parents, Bill Janssen and Gerti Janssen (Doeden); his son Mark; his son-in-law Jim; and his brother Andrew.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret Renken; his children, Margie of Newton, AL, Marlene (Ben) of Wilmont, MN and Melvin Jr. (Jane) of Bigelow, MN; his grandchildren, Sue, Christopher, Jeremy, Marvin, Jennifer (Josh), Ila Mae, Nicole (Ryan), Sarah (Joseph) and Kyle; and his great grandchildren, Brantley, Callista, Addalyn, Grayson, Dillon, Jennifer, Laura, Justin, Brooke, Blake, Jared, Riley and Seraphia.
