She was predeceased by: her parents, Kenneth Smail and Catherine Smail (Fife); her husband Edward J. Berger Jr.; and her great grandchild Griffin Douglas Engelkes. She is survived by: her children, Barry (Linda Griffith) of Worthington, MN, Michael of New Brighton, MN and Laurie DeNeui (Terry) of Rushmore, MN; her grandchildren, Alex Solem (Sara) of Huron, SD, Katherine Johnson (Adam) of Kempner, TX, Hannah Engelkes (Nate) of Little Rock, IA, Brent Berger of Worthington, Brady Berger of Worthington and Hope DeNeui of Marshall, MN; her great grandchildren, Kellen, Kamryn Solem, Madison, Cassidy Johnson, Gibson and Gustin Engelkes; her siblings, Beverly Allen (Paul) of Rochester, MN, Marsha Tofte (Robert) of Shoreview, MN and Tomm Smail (Joyce) of Oakland, CA; and her sisters-in-law, Gladys Berger of Worthington, Nora Everding (Dale) of Worthington, Karmel Berger of Sioux Falls, SD and Donna Berger of Worthington. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of memorials or flowers, the family requests donations be given to Alzheimer's Research.
