He was predeceased by : his wife Suzanne; his parents, Cletus and Mildred; his brother Cletus; and his children, Joseph, Jennifer and Julie.
He is survived by : his significant other Ethyl Skilman; his children, James C. Berns (Kim Schwyhart) of St. Louis, Paul A. Berns (Cheryl) of Troy and Molly R. Berns (Lance Endicott) of St. Louis; his grandchildren, Jason, Melissa, James, Nick, Amber, Austin and Madeline; his great grandchildren, Emmalyn, Elliana and Ensley; and his brothers, Charles Berns (Doris) of Harpers Ferry and Tommy Berns (Debbie) of La Crescent. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW Post #5553 or Knights of Columbus #1928 St. Clement Council.
