He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Backstrom and Florence Eugenia Backstrom. He is survived by: his wife Sharron Chambers; and his siblings-in-law, Carol Lyon (Carl), Barbara McDermott (Stan) and Chris Chambers (Sara). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the City Union Mission.
