He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Smocks and Armenthia Smocks; his siblings, LeRoy, Frank Smocks, Ronald, Leroy Oliver and Dorris Quarles; and his son Theodore J. Smocks III.

He is survived by: his wife Lue Faye; his son Kenneth Ray Pickens; his sisters, Rosie Lee Smocks and Ruth Alexander (Dallas); his siblings-in-law, Georgia Smocks and Billie Ray Pickens; his grandchildren, Geovio, Trayvon, Jaylen, Lazhan, Tyler, Payton, Arieanna and Damaya; and his great grandchildren, Sophia and Alex. He is also survived by nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.
