Georgia Wilma Rodgers Obituary
Georgia Wilma (Mosley) Rodgers, 83, of Liberty, Missouri, died on Monday, October 12, 2020, after a stroke and short hospitalization. She was born on October 29, 1936, to Grover and Stella Mosley in Chilhowee, Missouri, the second of four children.
Wilma moved to the Kansas City area as a young adult. She married Roy Rodgers, her husband of 57 years, who preceded her in death. She and Roy had four children – Steven Rodgers, Sherry (Afrisio) Rodgers, Keven Rodgers and Gary Rodgers. Wilma also assisted in raising her stepchildren, Debbie Rodgers (Hickox) and Larry Rodgers. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren for whom she was always willing to provide babysitting and after school care. Wilma enjoyed a nearly 50-year career in the telephone industry, starting at Western Electric and retiring at Fabtech. After her retirement, Wilma and Roy moved to Liberty to be close to son Gary and his wife, Laura, and their daughters Sara and Emma. She cared for Roy through his illness and later became a faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Liberty. She loved to cook, garden, sew, crochet and spend time with her grandchildren. She had many friends through the years through her marriage to Roy, her work and her church involvement.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Anna Ruth; and her brother, Grover Mosley, Jr.
She was happy to spend her final years in Gary and Laura's home with Sara, Emma and her great grandchildren, Brian Afrisio, Jr. and Harmony Afrisio. She is also survived by grandchildren Vaunda Davis, Kim Jackson, Marissa Hill, Larry Rodgers Jr. and Bo Brandy Stacey; sister, Sarah McWhirt of Clinton, MO; sister-in-law, Beverly Mosley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Her strong Christian faith was an inspiration and we celebrate her life and will miss her dearly.
A private family funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 17, at Second Baptist Church, 300 E Kansas St., Liberty, MO 64068. A public graveside service will be held at 11:45 AM, Saturday, October 17, at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133.
