He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Louis W. Schmitt and Gladys Schmitt; his siblings, Louis Edward, Myron and Anita; his wife Sarah (Sally); his daughters, Kirsten, Saralynn and Karla; and his sons-in-law, Phil Bennett, Craig Manville and Craig Bolles. He was also cherished by nine grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holt United Methodist Church.
