He was predeceased by: his parents, James D. Butner and Harriet H. Butner; his former wife June Butner; his son Douglas Butner; and his sisters, Betty Zimmerman and Charlotte Butner.

He is survived by: his wife Janie Butner; his son David Butner (Nancy); his siblings, Evelyn Worley, Kay Lewis and Larry "Pete" Butner; his granddaughters, Amy Michael (Jason) and Lori Davis (Marc); his great grandchildren, Alexis, Grace, Peyton and Trenton; his stepsons, Jeff Dickherber (Rose), Alan Dickherber (Jeannie) and Ed Dickherber; and his stepgrandchildren, Paul, Sarah, Jacob, Evan, Eric, Audrey and Luke.
