He was predeceased by: his wife Gerda Bernard; and his parents, George Bernard and Violet Bernard. He is survived by: his children, Michael Bernard (Jacquie) and Susan Schreiner (late Larry); his grandsons, Brian Bernard, Nick Bernard and Alan Schreiner (Erin); and his great grandchildren, Maeve Schreiner and Finley Schreiner.
