She was predeceased by: her husband William "Bill" R. Schaefer; her parents, Oliver Auchly and Agnes Auchly; her siblings, Charles Auchly (Anna Lee), Richard Auchly (Lorraine) and Nellie Oetting (Dale); her sons, Michael Schaefer and Steven Schaefer; her grandson Austin Crabtree; and her great grandchild Maci McMurtry.
She is survived by: her children, Rick, Susan "Sue" K. Wappelhorst (Mark), Lynn M. McMurtry (Carl), Donald "Donny" D. Schaefer (Susan) and Lori A. Crabtree (Steven); and her grandchildren, Johnathan Schaefer (Jessi), Heather Baniak (Josh), Aaron Wappelhorst, Brandon Wappelhorst (Megan), Crysten Wappelhorst, Shannon McMurtry (Sabina), Trisha English (Scott), Casey McMurtry (Kristin), Aubrey Bryzeal (Ryan), Caitlyn Luecke (John), Jennifer Burkett (Brad), Whitney Schaefer (Brett Johnson) and Cody Crabtree.

Memorials may be made in Mary Ellen's name to Community Loving Care Hospice or Masses.
