He was predeceased by: his parents, Marguerite Hanna Berends (Fry) and Theo Sr. Berends; and his wife Barbara Berends (Happel). He is survived by: his children, Traci Berends of Salem, Missouri and Terry Berends (Judy) of Columbia; his siblings, Richard Berends (Claudia) of Berryton, Kansas, Debbie Blair (James) of Topeka and Delores Iames of Auburn, Kansas; and his granddaughters, Maddison Berends and Laura Benstine.

Memorials may be made in memory of Theo Berends to the family for expenses.
