Teddy Gene Segelhorst Obituary
Teddy Gene Segelhorst of Summersville, MO passed away on July 8, 2025 at the age of 67. Teddy was born November 10, 1957 in Pinckneyville, IL to Harold E. Segelhorst and Shirley Ann (Bird) Segelhorst.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister Susan Darter and brother Larry Segelhorst.
He is survived by his sister Tammy Clinton of Springfield, MO and his brother Richard Segelhorst of Summersville, MO. He is also survived by two daughters, Amy (Jason) Pitts of Lesterville, MO and Hallie Segelhorst (Waseem) of Chicago, IL. His three grandchildren: Victoria, Olivia, and Jamison Pitts. His nephews and nieces: Mack (Stephanie) Cooper, Wesley (Kayla) Segelhorst, Miranda (Bradley) Greer, Amanda (Brett) Macumber, and JC Clinton (Kayla). Many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He loved his family dearly and was so proud of all of them.
Teddy grew up in Coulterville, IL where he spent many years of his life. As a youth, he worked on many neighboring farms helping with hay and various farm work for many summers. He made many lifelong and deeply valued friendships.
At 18 he went to work for Peabody Coal Co. in Baldwin, Illinois where he was a member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) Local 1820 Baldwin. Teddy was a belt shoveler who worked underground until the mine closed in 1993.
In his younger years he was very active. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, water skiing, horseback riding, playing softball, and absolutely loved to play tennis. He also loved teaching his daughters and grandkids all he knew. In later years, on many afternoons he could be found in the yard with his grandkids watching them play ball. He was a history buff and was very knowledgeable on just about everything. He loved the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals, but always kept an eye on the Chicago Bears for his grandson Jamison, who he could talk with for hours about any player or team.
Teddy never met a stranger. He was very loving and caring, and had a big heart. He loved animals, and visits with friends and family.
Teddy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
There will be a private ceremony held at a later date by immediate family in accordance with his wishes.
