He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewey Shanks and Earline Smith Shanks; and his siblings, Calvin Shanks, Alton Shanks, Samuel Shanks and Bertha Thrasher.
He is survived by: his children, Boyd "Bubba" Shanks, Jr. (Jackie) of Shannon, MS, Gloria Berry (Ray) of Columbus, MS and Windy Raines (Chris Miller) of Columbus, MS; his sister Ann Minor of Columbus, MS; and his grandchildren, Chris Berry, Kala Berry, Breeze Whitmore, Brandon Whitmore, Breanna Raines, Corey Shanks and Cheyeene Ellzey. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren.
