She was predeceased by: her parents, Wane Harris and Della Murphy Harris; and her husband Floyd M. Hegwood. She is survived by: her sons, Terry Wane Hegwood of Chesapeake, VA and Randy William Hegwood of Columbus, MS.; her daughters-in-law, Glenda Hegwood, Teresa Bobbio, Crystal Lea Hegwood and Kellie Rae Hegwood; her stepgrandchildren, Rachel and Byron Smith; and her siblings, Jed Harris (Carol), Shirley Thompson (Art), Ida Mae Kittrell (Dick) and Connie Slater (Doyle). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was very proud of a Freedom Foundation Poetry Award presented as the San Antonia, Texas World's Fair.
