He was predeceased by: his mother Henrietta Ervin; his grandparents, George and Deloris Johnson; his siblings, Patricia Johnson and Adrian Ervin; his daughter Linda Snell; and his granddaughter Ahmani Thompson.
He is survived by: his wife Mamie Johnson; his children, Lawanda Thompson (Antonio), Tambra Cotton, Jamarcus Steel, Courtney Johnson, Veronica Yarbough (Jeff), Laricco Snell (Brandy) and Wendy Kelly (Floyd); and his siblings, Loretta Williams (Robert), Jackie Leach (Darren) of Columbus and Leonard Ervin of Raleigh. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; 12 grandchildren; 7 great- grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
