He was predeceased by: his wife Gloria Jean Melton Craven; his son Richard Craven; his parents, John David Craven and Beatrice Malone Craven; and his siblings, Charles, Teddy, David, Bill Craven and Joyce Reynolds.

He is survived by: his children, Carl Craven, Jr. and Charlotte Ezell; his son-in-law David; his grandchildren, Latasha Kilpatrick (Brad), Chad Mann, Carrie Robinson (Chris), Clinton Craven, Anna Cooley (Jimmy) and Nicholas Craven; and his sisters, Helen James, Eva Hammond and Trina Cook. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
