He was predeceased by : his parents, Horace Hillian Kilgore and Cynthia Criddle Kilgore; his wife Loretta Thomas Kilgore; his stepmother Mattie Kilgore; his siblings, Laverne Wortham, Maylene Gordon, John and David Kilgore; his grandson Hunter Sullivan; and his children-in-law, Brown Sullivan and Trish Kilgore.

He is survived by : his children, Myra Booth (Doyle) of Houston, Sherrene Cole (Raymond) of Houston, Judy Ertle (Charlie) of Bruce, James Kilgore, Jr. (Linda) of Houston and Thomas Kilgore of Eupora; and his siblings, Geneva Mooneyham of Houston, Pamela Sammuels of Houston, Sue King of Houston, Barbara Franks of Randolph, Billy Ray Kilgore of Houston, Dennis Kilgore of Houston and Warren Kilgore. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren; his 27 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren.
