Thornton; his brother Alfred; his grandmother Lula Stover; his wife Viveca Stover; his sons, Calvin J. Stover of Springdale and Brian Scott Stover-Holt of Detroit, Michigan; his grandsons, Anthony Hartright of Milwaukee, Carl John Cook of Springdale and Jon Patrick Flannigan of Ben Salem, Pennsylvania; his brother Joseph Willis of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; his nieces and nephews, Janice Mayfield (Terrance) of Dallas, Vernessa Poole (Tremont) of New York, Cathleen Rodgers of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Hiram Willis of Wauwatosa and David Polachowski of Franklin, Wisconsin; and also Shamari Christian. He was also cherished by cousins and friends.
