He was predeceased by : his parents, John R. Helms and Maude Hamilton Helms Sr.; his siblings, Mike Helms, Johnny Helms (Pat), William Helms (Peggy), Anna Helms and Betty West McCool (Bobby); and his nieces, Susan West and Elnora Helms.

He is survived by : his brother Albert Helms (Judy); his close friend Jeanie Dew; and his nieces and nephews, Stephanie Edwards, Joanna Gillis, Tammy Palmer, Rhonda Milstead, Lisa Herndon (Ricky), Ricky Helms, Eddie Helms, Randy Helms, Rod Helms, Hudson Helms (Sherry), Michael Helms (Miranda) and Doug West. He is also survived by several great nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
