He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon Russell Gilbert and Opal Venn Gilbert; and his siblings, George Benson Gilbert and Lula Mae Glenn. He is survived by: his wife Deborah Gail Ashford; his daughters, Shannon Rizzo (Trip), Jenny Reaves (Chris), Stacey Sheils (Mark) and Jill Vita (Ricardo); and his grandchildren, Annabelle, Rachel, Reece, Patrick, Finn, Lilly, Hudson, Joleigh and Elly.
