He was predeceased by: the mother of his children Shirley Corley Johnston; his parents, Ellis Johnston, Sr. and Vada Hinton Johnston; his siblings, Tommy Johnston and Mary Joyce Clark; and his stepdaughter Shelly Blakeney.
He is survived by: his wife Doris Corley Johnston of Taylorsville; his children, Timothy Johnston (Joan) of Summerland, Daniel Johnston (Barbara) of Gitano and Robin Blakeney of Puckett; his stepchildren, Mack Blakeney of Gitano, Mitchell Blakeney of Gitano and Misty Blakeney Parker (Randy) of Laurel; and his siblings, Howard Johnston (Carol) of Gitano, Ada Faye Westbrook (Dale) of Raleigh and Betty Jo Sharpe (Von). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
