He was predeceased by: his daughter Melissa Karen Laird; his parents, James Laird Sr. and Polly Laird; his grandparents, James Morren and Jim Laird; and his brother Jerry Laird.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Laird; his son William Laird (Shauna); his grandchildren, Miles Merrell, Megan Yarbrough (Andrew) and Autumn Laird; his great grandchildren, Raeanna Merrell and Oaklynn Yarbrough; and his sister Betty Jane Flowers. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
