She was predeceased by: her parents, W. E. Sykes and Gladys Smith Sykes; and her brother James E. Gibson. She is survived by: her sister-in-law Roberta Gibson; her aunt Dorothy Smith Dobson (Robert); her cousins, Jeff Dobson (Tammy) of Laurel, Donald Dobson (Susan) of Foley, AL, Denny Dobson (Kathy) of Foley, AL, Anthony Dobson (Jennifer) of Foley, AL, Tammy Jones (Lewis) of Birmingham, AL. and Holly Strayer (Mike) of Birmingham, AL.; and her brother Matt Olson. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations made in Joyce's honor to Unless U, a non-profit ministry that serves special needs adults.
