With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Elva Smith (Long Beach, Mississippi), born in Brookhaven, Mississippi, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on August 5, 2025 at the age of 88. She was predeceased by: her husband Melvin Smith; her parents, Versie Calcote and Rutha Posey Calcote; and her siblings, Willena Varnado (Housley), Mary Lou Barlow (Roy), Lamar Calcote (Irene), Loyd Calcote (Ann), Henry Calcote (Thelma) and Allen Curry.
She is survived by: her sons, Mel Smith (Jo Ann) and Mark Smith (Julienne); her grandchildren, Tyler Smith (Tara), Sam, Eloise, Brandon Smith (Lauren), Francis Elva and Florence; and her sisters, Bernita Reeves (Ronnie) and Lynette Curry. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, August 16th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Long Beach (300 N Cleveland Ave, Long Beach, MS 39560). A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 16th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, August 16th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:15 PM at the Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens (19361 28th St, Long Beach, MS 39560).
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Long Beach, 300 N. Cleveland Avenue, Long Beach, MS 39560.
