He was predeceased by: his parents, O. F. Merritt and Geneva Merritt; his son Billy Glenn Merritt; and his siblings, Roy Merritt, Vandee Merritt, Lucille Perry, Claire Vee Franks, Melonee Havard and Mary Alice Hinton.
He is survived by: his wife Mary McLeod Merritt (Jackie); his sons, Mark D. Merritt (Sylvia) and Richard D. Merritt (Rosie); his grandchildren, Madison Farris, Meagan Evans (Dillion), Jeannie Taylor (Larry), Darlana Lurquin (Austin), Marissa Merritt, Jessica Cooney (Michael), Brandon Merritt (Lindsey) and Chase Merritt; and his sister Nell Turner. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews.
