Wilbert Wayne Linscheid Obituary

Wil was born on December 13, 1938 in Norman Oklahoma to Harold and Edna Linscheid.

As a young man growing up, Wil was a part of a large and loving family.

In his early years he became interested in airplanes and flying and inquired every chance he had to learn more. Wil was a graduate of the Aeronautical Engineering program at Wichita State in Wichita, Kansas. He enlisted in the US Navy, becoming a flight instructor in the T-28 while stationed at Pensacola, Florida. His service included time served in a Helicopter Squadron (HC2) aboard the USS Forrestal, where he was onboard when the fatal Forrestal fire occurred off the coast of Vietnam. He remained in the Naval Reserve and attained the rank of Lieutenant.

During his years of flying, which he flew up until 2005, he logged over 3600 hours in many different type of aircraft, the main ones being North America T-28, Cessna 340, Kaman UH-2A/B and Beechcraft King Air. He eventually owned a Cessna 172 in which he loved taking passengers up to scare them with his many aerobatic skills.

Wil and Marilyn traveled to many airshows that included the Reno Air Races, Oshkosh and Sun-N-Fun and many regional shows where either the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds were performing.

Wil enjoyed a long and successful career that included his time in the Navy, the Navy Reserve, corporate pilot and engineer for Mills Manufacturing, Carolina Parachute, Butler Parachutes, Altima Delta, and in later years, was the Quality Control Manager for Pioneer Aerospace branch in Columbia, MS. His designs influenced the various parachutes in the Mars Rover program.

In retirement, he and Marilyn enjoyed traveling to air events, watching movies, painting and writing his book, Spin Recovery, detailing his many flight experiences and in later life, his complicated medical history.

He was preceded in death by Harold and Edna Linscheid, Mother and Father, Lois Amick, Sister, and a baby brother.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years and together for 26 years, Marilyn, Brother, Norman Linscheid, Daughter, Terri Prosser (Vernon), Son, Kevin Linscheid (Jill), Stepsons, Jeremy Bowen (Lauren), Kent Bowen (Mary) Shane Bowen (Beth) and Robert Bowen and Fourteen grandchildren and Five great grandchildren.

His wish was that no memorial service be held and that his ashes be scattered over Wil and Marilyn's home place in Pass Christian and surrounding waterways where they enjoyed many fun times on the water. He will also have a place in history honoring him in the Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS located near their coastal home for many years.
