He was predeceased by: his parents, Seymour Cates and Thelma Cates (Thomas); his daughters, Robin Henderson and Kimberly Chapman; and his son-in-law Dennis Chapman.
He is survived by: his wife Alice Reece Cates; his daughters, Tracy McCarty (Davy) and Sandra Jo Williams (Ron); and his son-in-law Rick Henderson.
