He was predeceased by: his parents, Newell Rogers Murphy Sr. and Orietta Scott Murphy; his wife Althea Barrett Murphy; his children, Deb Murphy Forbes and Brett Holloway; and his grandchildren, Meg Hughes and Ben Leonard.
He is survived by: his sister Pat Murphy Millett of Vicksburg; his children, Kitty Bridges of Southaven, Jody Murphy of Vicksburg Ms, Rogers "Doodle" Murphy of Vicksburg Ms and Carr Murphy Black (Gwain) of Brandon Ms; his grandchildren, Nick Bridges, Andi Clark, Virginia Quinones, Amy Bridges, Brayden Black, Mason Brown, Barrett Brown, Hawkins Holloway, Sarah Beth Holloway and Kennedy Claire Smith; and his caregivers, Michelle Haynes and Melanie Arnold-Tillery.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Hawkins United Methodist Church or the Methodist Children's Home of Mississippi.
