He was predeceased by: his parent W. M. Tharp; his wife Katherine K. Tharp; his brother Glen Allen Tharp; and his grandson Andrew Tharp. He is survived by: his mother Sybil Sellers Tharp of Winona; and his children, Kristy Tharp of Winona, Jay Tharp of Grenada and Stephen Tharp of Winona. He is also survived by six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
