He was predeceased by: his parents, John J. Kathrein and Elizabeth Kathrein (Hoffman); his wife Rosella; and his brothers, Johnny Kathrein and Tony Kathrein.
He is survived by: his children, Teresa Carey (Michael) of Detroit Lakes, MN, Dale Kathrein (Jeannie) of Fargo, Nancy Wallock (David) of Rogers, MN and Amy Kathrein of Dayton, MN; and his siblings, Barbara Parker (Les) and Jack Kathrein of Bowman. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
