He was predeceased by : his son Jeffrey Sean Nelson; and his half-siblings, F. Warren Wilson and Marjoire Von Bohland. He is survived by : his wife Kathleen; his sons, Mike (Grace) and Steve; his grandchildren, Sarah Nuanez (Eric), Jacob Nelson (Megan), Lindsey Riley (Eric) and Zachary Nelson; and his great grandchildren, Pepper and Molly. He is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and a gang of good friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Florence Dedman Animal Foundation in Fort Benton, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
