He was predeceased by : his parents, Earl Shammel and Edna Shammel (Bleasdell); his wife Dorothy Sawyer Shammel; his daughter Nancy Kay; and his siblings, Vernon Shammel and Virginia Cabrel.

He is survived by : his daughter Mary Spencer (Paul); his grandchildren, David Spencer (Theresa), Saranna Doheny (Jesse), Lori Spencer, Ken Spencer (Caylee) and Elisa Spencer; his great grandchildren, Tanakie Doheny, Deakon Doheny, Kennan Doheny, Isaic Spencer, Connor Spencer, Thomas Spencer and Avalon Spencer; and his brother Earl Jr. Shammel (Jean).
