It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Robert James Shimer of Whitehall, Montana, born in Brooklyn, New York, who passed away on May 15, 2021, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was loved and cherished by many people including : his significant other Betty K. Louie; his parents, William M. Shimer and Dorothy MacFarland; and his brother William M. Shimer.

He was an elm tree monitor for the Sacramento Tree Foundation, reporting on any diseased elms he saw during his walks.
