He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Silas and Jennie Lee Pierce Ward; his sister Emily Minton; and his siblings-in-law, Rutherford and Ann Ward.
He is survived by: his wife Cassandra; his children, Shaun Ward (Tracy) of Ahoskie, David Haynes Ward, Jr. of Ahoskie and Betty Jo Odom (Tim) of Conway; his stepdaughter Cassie Bryan (Danny) of Utica, PA; and his siblings, Tommy Ward of Plymouth, Jimmy Ward (Glenda) of Ahoskie, Sammy Ward (Robin) of Manteo, Joey Rutherford of Ahoskie and Connie Jones (Dale) of Roanoke Rapids. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
