He was predeceased by: his son Eddie D. Harwood; and his siblings, Elbert Harwood, Richard Harwood and Evelyn Poplin. He is survived by: his wife Helen Lorch Harwood; his son Donnie E. Harwood (Rhonda) of Locust; his grandchildren, Jennifer Harwood (Danny), Matthew Harwood (Lauren) and Heather Harwood; his great grandchildren, Saylor and Olivia Harwood; and his sister Betty Vanhoy.
