He was predeceased by: his parents, Vance Elbert Helms and Lena Edna Ross Helms; his wife Joyce Ann Huneycutt Helms; his son Ricky G. Helms; and his siblings, Kenneth D. Helms and Brenda H. Webster.
He is survived by: his son Randy Helms (Brenda) of Albemarle; his siblings, Vance E. Helms Jr. (Frances) of China Grove, Harry Helms (Cathy) of Concord, James Helms Sr. (Kristy) of Kannapolis, Lena H. Gillon (Harry) of Mt. Pleasant and Sue H. Sullivan of Mt. Pleasant; and his niece Jennifer Correll (John) of Woodleaf, NC.. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
