He was predeceased by : his wife Allie Anders Sheppard; and his brothers, Gerald, James and Lewis Sheppard. He is survived by : his children, Crystal Sheppard Rhodes (Alan) of Barnardsville and Alan Sheppard (Kathy Rhodes); his grandchildren, Freddie Stanley (Michelle), Sunshine Stanley and Angel Stanley; his stepgrandchildren, Alaina Robinson, Alicia Rhodes and Nathaniel Rhodes; and his close friend Julie Lail (Carl).

Memorials may be made to the Elks Lodge, PO Box 1740, Asheville, NC 28802 and designated for the "Christmas shoe party" for disadvantaged kids.
