He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Floyd Berl and Caroline Kelly Berl; his wife Suzanne Chapin Wilkins Berl; his children, Andrea, Tia (James Thomson), E. Ennalls IV, Alexandra and Christopher (Elizabeth); and his stepsons, Charles and David Wilkins. He was also cherished by seven grandchildren.
