He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Dixon Gilbert and Ruth Skidmore Gilbert; his former wife Peggy Robinson Gilbert; his son John Neal Gilbert; and his sons-in-law, Jay Cox and Zach Wood.
He is survived by: his children, Angela Gilbert Cox of Asheville, Eric Scott Gilbert (Michelle) of Arden, Tina Gilbert Wood of Asheville and Keith Acker of Mills River; his daughter-in-law Tammy Gilbert of Weaverville; his grandchildren, Jake Cox (Jessica), Jordan Cox (Aubree), Kayla Stapp (David), Tyler Gilbert (Myranda Darnell) and C. J. Clark (Jessica); and his great grandchildren, Knox and Kennedy.
